In The Long Game, when Shane and Ilya see that same injury scene replayed on TV, Shane watches it and thinks “He’d never thought much about how scared Ilya had been. The next morning, Ilya visits Shane in the hospital and Shane reassures him that he’s not paralyzed and says he wanted to text him the night before to let him know that. Shane tries hard to reassure Ilya that he is okay even as he’s being moved to a stretcher. Even though he’s almost out of it, Shane’s primary concern in that scene is for Ilya-that Ilya will be anxious for him and Shane doesn’t want him to worry. In Heated Rivalry Shane gets injured on the ice and Ilya is terrified for him and stays by his side until he’s carried away.
